Getting
ready for 2009

River Valaine at Trehiguier on the blue bouys

Having sailed Odysseus for 10 years we came to the conclusion
that she was too small for the family and we needed to get a larger boat. We
looked around and judged that the Bavaria gave us the volume we required at a
price we could afford, much to the disappointment of some who still judge
these boats harshly, time will tell.
After delivering Odysseus (A Scanmar 33) to her new Swedish owner, and
having a last fantastic sail around the Brittany coast completing 612 miles in 7 days,
even sailing through some of the tidal gates on the way around.
We considered the market and made an offer for a Bavaria 38.
(which is a 40 foot boat) out
in France, this was accepted so we could go back to sailing this year.

Back to France to survey and accept her, after that we spent a
week moving on board and getting things as we wanted. Move the topping lift back
into the cockpit to the winches, adjust the battery charger to stop it gassing
all of the time, change the lazy jack position and fit bungee to the end lift,
adjust the furling as it was set up incorrectly probably from new, rewire 9
extra 13amp plugs into the boat, compound polish all of the top side and "A"
glaze it. And last of all rename her
"Odysseus"
Now to go sailing.

look into our annual trips and you may find them interesting if you are thinking
of going out that way.
